About Us

My first experience with the Vizsla breed dates back to the mid-1980's when a relative of mine had a Vizsla named Greta; what a wonderful companion and hunter she was. I hunted over her a number of times and always thought "if I ever do get a hunting dog it would be a Vizsla".

A number a years later the opportunity presented itself to purchase a hunting dog and the search began for a Vizsla puppy. In July of 2006 we found the perfect match for our family, her name became Jiris's Kiss Me Kate "Kate".  When we found out that her birthday was the same as my wife's, we took it as a sign that she was meant for us.

After reading books and doing some research on training, our work began. I trained Kate myself and did some things right and had lessons to learn on others. But all in all the experience was rewarding. Kate turned out to be a great companion, family member and fantastic hunter. She earned her Junior Hunter (JH) by her second birthday.

Having always wanting to have a litter of puppies and wanting our family to experience the miracle of birth, Connie and I decided that we would breed Kate. With the help of our mentor Cathy Gallagher Kate delivered eight puppies, two females and six males on December 5, 2008. We decided to start our own kennel so that we would be able to track the offspring of Kate via AKC, so the kennel name Hunt'm Up Vizslas arrived.

Ultimately we decided to keep one of the males since Connie wanted to try her hand at either agility or conformation and I wanted Kate to have a hunting companion in the field. We named our new addition to the family Hunt'm Up Twelve Gauge "Gauge".

Our dogs are spoiled rotten, like the rest of the kids in our family. They sleep in the same room with us, have the run of the house and they get the best care we can possibly provide. We are occasional breeders and feel that our puppies are individually cared for and socialized to the best of our abilities with a wide variety of adults, children, adult dogs (big and small) and our cats.

Please feel free to visit the rest of our site and offer any feedback that you may have. If you have questions about the Vizsla breed we will try to help by answering your questions or find out the answer for you if we don't know.
